On 19 and 20 September 2020 the XII Estonian women's group and III Estonian girls' group folk dance competition was held in Harku parish, at the Merikula study and sports centre. It was organised by the dance society AS-SA.
An endlessly lively and lovely event.
Going there as prizes were 80 little bags sewn by me and 3 large quilts: two in folk dance stripes and one with eight pointed stars.
The event could be followed live or afterwards at the link below. The prize giving takes place at the end of hour 3 and the start of hour 4, where the chief organiser, Astrid Vaizene, shows the quilts and drapes them over the shoulders of the leaders of the winning groups.
The quilts use Olgitex OU's cotton striped fabrics for national skirts, close to 50 different ones in each. The 12 circles in the middle symbolise 12 dancers in national skirts. The striped fabrics vary between the two quilts.
The eight pointed star, or eight pointed cross, the cross radiating light, the Muhu pine, is widely known in Europe as a magical sign bringing good fortune, a symbol of love and fertility. It was also known as the symbol of the morning star Venus, a symbol of light against darkness. As the symbol of the North Star it is a guide, showing both the main points of the compass and those in between, such as north east, south east, south west and north west.
I am moved from the heart and grateful for the honour of taking part in such a great and lovely event in this way.
