The approach of 1 September still gives me a happy nervousness to this day, although I have not set foot towards a school in ages and my children's school leaving is in the past.
Two of my grandchildren are already at school, but the excitements of their school year are a little distant from me. Yet every new school year is new and exciting, and the day when the street swarms with small celebrants with satchels and flowers is so sweet and so moving.
There is one more small secret about that day: one of my little princesses has her birthday on it.
Inspired by making diary covers, there is a small obstacle today: how many schoolchildren, or people in general, use a paper diary or calendar notebook, and what size are they? I personally like making notes on paper. When I worked in an office, my whole life was electronic. Now I enjoy the chance to avoid keyboards, mice and other computer creatures.
Curious about the sizes of notebooks, I visited an office supplies shop and thought I would buy a selection of calendar notebooks without covers to take measurements from. But that choice of sizes was simply too much. There must still be some more popular sizes that will emerge over time. At the moment I am making covers in 3 sizes, and for commissions I make covers in other sizes as well.
Soon I will add a new product group to the web shop: covers and sleeves and the like. And the selection currently being made.
