The patchwork room. The Dark Garden quilt.

Picture

The new year began with finishing off the work left over from last year. And there is always plenty of half finished work, and then some. Because I always have so many new ideas that I want to carry out right now, and quickly.

Recently I got hold of some really lovely fabrics, from which I sewed tops for four quilts in one go. These quilts were named "Dark Garden".
The main tones are dark grey and black with dark pink and leaf green. The pattern varies a little across the four quilts, as do the frame and one of the colours used in the pattern. Two quilts are for a double bed, two for a narrow one.

This time I took on the double width quilt (210x230 cm), the one with a diamond pattern, a dark red frame and small squares. For the interlining I sewed in a thin lofted wadding and for the backing a patterned silky fabric in reds and pinks. The quilt came out light, really very light. I have never had such an airy, delicate quilt before. I take the double width quilt over my arm and it feels as if I were holding a silk sheet there.
This quilt suits a wide bed as a day quilt and is now going on sale.

The other three quilts I will finish some time later. Another exciting piece of work is also waiting to be photographed and "labelled", and then I will take on work with my new machine, the leather machine. I have just received the new machine I waited a year for. Several interesting commissions have been waiting a long time, some of them for years. Quite embarrassing, really.
But there we are, the machine has arrived, it is assembled, the oils are in and the test seams are sewn.
Here are a few more pictures of the quilt finished today.
