The patchwork room. The dance quilt, a quilt of good luck, joy and healthy energy.

Picture

Comfortable and cosy...
The dance group "Sukad ja tagid" gave their wonderful teacher a quilt of the dance group's own.

New and interesting commissions are an exciting challenge, and sewing work like this, although a very time consuming undertaking, gives a great deal of energy.

Weeks of working with very strong positive emotions, brimming with joy and contentment, pass that same energy on to the quilt and to the person who receives it. I also hid specific good wishes and thoughts inside the seams, and the design carries a few symbols that pass good thoughts on.

The quilt is a symbol of dance and of the dance group. In the picture are both the current dancers and the future new ones, so that there will be many of them: girls in skirts and boys in black hats.
The colours express joy, and the plaits and braids youthfulness, health and vitality.

In the middle of the quilt is the dance group's logo, embroidered by hand, and their splendid slogan.

While uploading the photographs a little verse came to mind, and I give it to that lovely dance group and their teacher after the fact:

Plaits bouncing in the swing of the dance,
skirts all whirling together at once.
Girls dancing, joyful and good,
Boys in among them, black hats on their heads!
Every lass with a braid in her hair,
the teacher in a red skirt among them!

The pattern material is a cotton and polyester blend. The decorations use fabric with a wool and elastane blend, yarns and buttons. The interlining is a half wool wadding. The backing is cotton. The quilt is quilted right through to give it relief and durability.

The work took about 80 hours.
