The patchwork room. The craft project and competition "Textile and button"

Picture

I am planning to launch a craft project and a competition along with it.
The idea for the competition came from a wish to create a team of crafters with an element of competition in it, to exchange craft ideas actively and at the same time to launch a competition of original and exciting handwork.

At first the idea was to put together a team to exchange thoughts around a shared table, to agree on the themes of the project and the materials to be used, to share out duties and roles within the team, to find sponsors for the project, to run monthly themed competitions and to hold a big exhibition in the spring.

Life showed, though, that my call was a voice crying in the wilderness.
We all have quite enough to do and to answer for already. All the more so because it is summer and holiday time. Midsummer and barbecues are at the door, the song and dance festival and the TuleTulemine events connected with it are about to begin all over Estonia. Never mind all the other outdoor events, concerts, sports competitions and holiday trips.
So I decided to get my project going myself, and to do it with the help of the all powerful Facebook:

The group CRAFT COMPETITION.
At the moment the group's space is still being built and is locked. A little patience.

PS. When making things with buttons with children, remember: the smaller the children, the bigger the buttons have to be. Big enough that they will not fit into a nose or an ear or get stuck in a throat.

The idea of the group:
The thought of creating the group came from a wish to create a team of crafters with an element of competition in it, to exchange craft ideas and thoughts actively and at the same time to launch a competition of original and exciting handwork.

Themes:
I will propose the themes month by month and create the matching catalogues.
One season lasts 9 months, that is from September to May.
The keywords of this season, 2014/2015, are REUSE, TEXTILE and BUTTON.
If the group grows quickly I will announce additional themes, for instance wool, yarn, ceramics, glass or the like.
Your wishes and suggestions are welcome as comments under the appropriate post.

Members:
Joining the group is voluntary and does not oblige anyone to take part in the competition.
If you want to take part in the competition, follow the relevant rules.
Both individuals and groups may take part in the competition.

Taking part in the competition:
Add a photograph of one of your best pieces of the month in question (for a group, up to three) to the catalogue for that month and theme, and alongside it, by way of explanation:
1. The name of the piece and, if needed, an explanation of what it is.
2. The materials used. When using our supporters' materials it is polite to mention that as well.
3. If you took inspiration from a publication, a blog or somewhere else online, add the relevant link.
4. If possible, add a link to your blog, where you describe how the work was done.

Judging the results:
Each month the most interesting and original pieces emerge by the number of likes. We highlight the best of each month at the start of the new month, and those are the pieces that go forward to the choice of the season's best.

Businesses that would like to place their advertising on our page can choose their own favourites and reward them with prizes of their own. That is the payment for the advertising. One advertisement as a picture, and a prize promised at the end of the month.

Supporters and advertising:
To become a supporter of ours:
1. Create your advertisement and add alongside it, in the comments, information about the criteria (for instance originality, richness of colour and so on) by which your company will choose its favourite, that is the prize winner.
2. In the first days of the new month, announce the prize winner or winners in the comments under that same advertising photograph.
3. Make sure the prize winner adds a comment to say that the prize has been received.

Rules:
1. Be polite and follow good practice on Facebook.
2. Be active, both in taking part in the competition with your ideas, inspiration and work and in giving feedback on other people's work. Do not be stingy with likes and shares.
3. To keep our supporters motivated, let them know under their advertisements which of them you find especially splendid and welcome. Because the prize for the current month is noted with every advertisement.
4. When you have received a prize, say so in the comments under the relevant advertisement.

I wish you all many exciting ideas and joyful meetings.
