A wonderful year for berries and apples.
This spring was exceptionally cold. A large share of the plants died right after they went into the ground, among them fifty summer flowers and just as many cucumber and tomato seedlings. The dill and even the pea bed stayed empty.
The irises, on the other hand, loved this odd spring: every iris I own flowered, and flowered lavishly. Even the plants that had not once shown me a bloom since they moved into my garden four years ago were showing off this spring like queens.
It was a wonderful year for raspberries, blackcurrants and apples too. Instead of the usual 15 to 20 litres of raspberries I picked 50 litres this year. The young blackcurrant I planted last spring gave 10 litres of berries as big as gooseberries. The young family apple tree had not a single apple last year, and this year the branches of both varieties are bowed down with them.
Here are some pictures of the loveliest plants growing in my collection garden, and of the good harvest.
