The bird house. Spring.

Spring again!

Picture

The hens enjoying their freedom in our ornamental garden. The spruce hedge gives them shade from the hot sun, and by the compost bin there is endless scratching to be done and plenty of fat earthworms to eat. At first they did not even have a fence around them, I simply kept an eye out so that nobody wandered into the vegetable beds. Later we put up a one metre net. If one of them lost her head and flew over the fence, she would be badly startled and trot back and forth along the netting trying to get back to the others. Over the summer they got clever enough to make a round of the neighbourhood and fly back into the run by themselves.
