A sofa cover for a nursery quiet corner

When I was last asked whether nurseries order a lot of sewing from me, I had nothing to say. How much is a lot... Now that I have thought it over at more length, I have to admit that nurseries and schools are one of my main target groups: beanbags, kannel bags, wall hangings with and without pockets, picnic blankets, aprons, equipment for the doll corner, pencil cases and so on. Every new piece is an exciting and splendid job of its own.

This time I visited the nursery that also ordered the wall hanging with pockets for the teddy bears, and as a new piece of work I took along the freshly finished sofa cover. The cover is of greyish blue upholstery fabric, in a similar tone to the two small armchairs. Since a cover in patchwork would be very labour intensive and therefore rather expensive, the idea came to make this piece of sewing with the moon and the stars in the sky. Because there is an enormous sun on the wall hanging, and the moon and stars in the sky on the opposite wall of the playroom seemed splendid.

The greatest joy is always when yet another piece of work is liked, or even greatly liked. This time, when I took the sofa cover out of its package and spread it out, there were oohs and aahs at once, and the keener ones stood in a row shifting from foot to foot, waiting to get onto it. 🙂 So sweet.
I took a few pictures as well. The big girl in the picture will soon be a schoolgirl, as she assured me. In the picture, though, she is a space rocket racing about among the stars.
The children were all very splendid and I should have taken a few more pictures, to have a wider choice.
I took one more snap of the hanging with the bears too 🙂
