A picnic blanket for a nursery

The thought was to make it with a nylon backing. But I thought this way and that and settled on wool after all. The pattern is of a thin, light woollen fabric and the backing a thick, warm wool. The colours are relatively dark, so there is no need to worry too much about dirt.

I left the nylon off the underside. Then it can be used indoors as well, in the hall during music lessons or for story time in the group rooms. At picnic time a plastic sheet can be put underneath if the ground is damp. For the next blankets, though, I have found a good technical fabric, thin and hard wearing. It does not let damp through easily and you can walk about on it without worrying that it will tear.

One blanket like this is more than enough for a nursery, so soft, warm and luxurious.
My little man watched me folding the pattern of the blanket onto the wadding and rejoiced over yet another sun, which in his view was looking back at him from the middle of the blanket. He asked permission to go and stand on the sun. Of course I said yes. So there he stood, on top of the ornament, beaming. 🙂
Clearly my "suns" have some positive aura about them from the very beginning, which makes a child happy.
When the blanket is finished you can see it on the portfolio page. Today, though, here is this picture: a hundred odd safety pins stuck in and waiting to be quilted. The blanket is 200x200 cm.

Pictures of finished work can be found in the portfolio, for nurseries and schools. Five more blankets will be added there soon. If you would like to order something similar, do let me know.
