My husband got a gas grill for his birthday. But it is sad and wet for a grill to stand naked outside on an ordinary day. So the man ordered the grill a dress. He waited and waited, but what is not there is a dress. I told him I had not forgotten his wish, that it is nicely in the queue of work and it will come. And so sad, so sad he was. He could not imagine I had so much work. He probably thought I sit at home all day with my feet up, spitting at the ceiling.
So I decided to take the thing on and do it in one go. For an hour I sorted artificial leather offcuts into stacks by size and colour. I took measurements and made drawings, several of them... I sorted the material once more, and when I finally set the scissors into it, the thing quickly took shape. If a piece was missing somewhere, a patch on the end of it and no excessive thinking, calculating or combining.
On the front side I sewed a zip, so that the air moves and it dries faster after rain. One side is 20 cm shorter than the others, likewise to avoid too much damp.
As for the colours, this piece of sewing was a quick creative patchwork undertaking.
I thought that when my husband came home and saw another of my patchwork creations he would certainly pull faces. But oh, the wonder: he was sincerely pleased with the result. I was even praised, that it is so splendid... Well, when even a man's eye sees beauty in patchwork, what more can you ask of life...
