For a change from playing with fabrics, I took part in a ceramics workshop.
I have made a few little pots and ceramic pictures before. Now there was a welcome chance to get my hands into clay once again. Practical person that I am, it took a whole week to decide what to make.
I do not want a mug; the cupboard is full of mugs as it is. Nor do I really want more bowls and dishes. Ceramic ones especially: they take a lot of room, break easily and will not stand a dishwasher 🙂
Well then, what to make? If I think of my studio, my favourite room at the moment, there are always all sorts of bits and pieces there and a need for little pots and jars. So I decided to make a set of ceramic pots. And, with Valentine's Day coming, I had the idea of making a few ceramic buttons and hearts. In time they will surely find a fine place on some piece of sewing.
In the first lesson, that is 4 hours, I shaped the pots and, from the leftovers, hearts, buttons and a ceramic pendant and a set of earrings. The pieces dried for a week, and the next 3 hours went on sanding them and poking the holes in the buttons bigger. Because while drying, all the holes poked into the clay the time before had nicely dried shut 🙂
Now the pieces went into the kiln.
Next week we glaze them and they go into the kiln again. And a week after that the pictures go on and into the kiln again. So much fuss over three pots and a handful of buttons. But it will be tremendous when they are finally finished and take their place in my studio or on my sewing.
Greetings to all ceramicists. You certainly must have patience, to bear weeks of waiting with every piece. With fabric it is so much simpler: you just keep whirring away.
