A little blonde refugee (2)

A week has passed since Emma got a new home from my sewing room.
To begin with I let her think her life over for a day or two. And once it was clear that she intended to behave politely and no longer stared at me with that eerie look, I sewed her her first dress.

I have never sewn dresses for such a tiny doll before; it was quite a bit of fiddling. But interesting and creative work all the same. Especially when sewing a quilt has worn you out before the end of the day.
Her first dress I sewed from the leftovers of the quilt I was working on today. Lace as decoration, hook and loop tape at the back as a fastening. The belt fastens with hook and loop tape too.
With her hair I had a dreadful time. The old elastic had melted into the hair. I washed it with my own shampoo and rinsed it with plenty of conditioner so that a comb would go through. Some of the hair had to be cut out along with the remains of the elastic, which had turned into a kind of chewing gum. Now she has a plait across her head.

I must admit that the doll really does look much prettier and more cheerful now. Her eyes are a much lighter blue. In the first days they often seemed quite raven black.

Emma now belongs among the lucky mascots of my sewing room. If that role suits her, she is thoroughly welcome. Sewing her a dress or a little outfit now and then by way of thanks would be quite splendid.
If she starts causing any trouble, though, then sadly she will have to go back to the "distribution point". 🙂
Here is one more picture, against the background of today's quilt.
