Some long time ago, I do not remember exactly when it happened, I was given a hint about a wish for a fleece cuddle quilt.
What happened, though, was that since fleece is as synthetic as anything can be, I did not rush headlong to grant the wish but set about looking for alternatives.
In the end I decided to order cotton fleece, which I have not come across on sale in the shops. Onto it I ordered an embroidery of the child's name, and planned to finish the quilt with a cotton jersey backing and binding. But the child grew and grew, and the sweet pink jersey waited for me on a shelf in some shop. And commissions with deadlines were lined up waiting their turn too.
At the start of the summer I decisively turned down every commission and took on the UFOs. In translation, unfinished objects, quilters' slang... and I finished this quilt as well. At the edges I added loops and plenty of lovely little characters on them, to keep the child company and watch over her sleep.
I did not put wadding in this time, because a cuddle quilt has to fit both under a child's cheek and into her arms. A cuddle quilt is the thing that has to be hauled along to the car, to grandmother's and on a cruise.
Right at the end I sewed the quilt a bag of its own. Kathleen loves walking about the room with a little bag in her hand. Now she can stuff the cuddle quilt into the bag herself and take it with her.
By the way, the black dog and cat in the foreground are their family's animals.
