The heat makes you feel as if you were living in the tropics, somewhere in a Tarzan story. I do not know why anyone would still travel about foreign beaches. The most refreshing thing, of course, is to stand under a cold shower. And to visit the sea in the evening after sunset, to slide into the water and cool the body.
But I cannot quite stay away from the sewing machine either. Soon a long and exciting trip lies ahead, to Birmingham, to the international quilt festival. I am going only as a visitor, but preparations still have to be made. You cannot go there in ordinary clothes; it has to be a costume made yourself from leftover pieces.
Since I already have several thin patchwork skirts and dresses, I thought I would make myself one slightly more festive set just in case. A skirt and a bag.
For the bag, a piece of the skirt fabric, artificial leather, real leather for the handles and binding, and a few rivets. A pocket on the front, a large elasticated pocket inside and another pocket with a zip. A zip as the fastening. Exactly the size to hold a purse, a glasses case, a notebook, with the other odds and ends in the pockets.
In future I plan to make some bags for sale in the web shop as well.
