I have long planned to sew myself a handbag. Something roomy enough to carry on the shoulder. Now it is done.
Now it holds all the small things needed every day, a folder of sheet music and, on a trip to town, smaller purchases too.
The colourful fabric on the front is a piece of the jersey from my patchwork skirt; the rest is full leather. The lining is a nylon made specially for lining bags.
I ironed the jersey onto fusible interfacing and, for strength and protection from rain, sewed artificial leather under the front. The outer pocket flap has a magnetic fastening, a good place to throw a phone and keys. The opening of the bag has a zip and inside there are 2 large pockets: one with a zip, and on the other I sewed an elasticated edge.
I am quite happy myself; the bag came out exactly as I wanted. My grandson looked at it too and decided it is a good big bag, that I could take a sewing machine with me in it if I wanted. The little machine he was playing with at that moment.

And now a picture of the skirt, which I sewed earlier but which goes with this bag as a set.
